Dear Friend,
As you begin to survey the worthy causes for year-end giving, we urge
you to consider a tax-deductible donation to Diapason, New York's
only gallery devoted to sound art. Since 2001, over 300 international
artists have had the opportunity to present work in this unique
environment. Our focused listening space gives our visitors the most
direct sonic experience possible, opening minds to the works we present.
At this time, we have urgent need of donations to make possible
programs and expansions planned for 2010. We are proud to announce a
number of exciting developments that your donation will help to support:
+ Diapason is thrilled to launch our newly designed website: www.diapasongallery.org
+ 3 years after moving to Industry City in Sunset Park, Brooklyn,
Diapason has signed a new lease, ensuring our growth with this
developing arts community.
+ Diapason's ongoing residency program served over 20 artists in 2009
and saw the completion of over a dozen new works created during the
residencies. Among 2009's residents were Joseph Diebes, Bryan
Eubanks, Laura Kavanaugh and Ian Birse, Annette Krebs, Philippe-Aubert
Gauthier and Tanya St-Pierre and others.
+ In November 2009 Diapason premiered its Archival Jukebox, letting
visitors to the gallery choose works to play on demand over our 12
channel sound system. This gives visitors and scholars alike
unparalleled access to over 40 works originally shown at Diapason. The
Archive provides a record of the important work undertaken at the
gallery, and is also a unique educational tool.
+ Additional plans include adding a third gallery space, expanding
exhibitions to include other parts of the building, including
stairwells and common areas, and installing 8 contact microphones
throughout the space so that listeners can hear normally sub-audible
sounds through an interactive mix.
+ Our plans for 2010 include a month-long Xenakis program (timed to
coincide with the Drawing Center's exhibition Iannis Xenakis:
Composer, Architect, Visionary), exhibitions curated by Allon Kaye and
Seth Kim-Cohen, a "video-scoring" workshop developed by Adam Kendall,
and our usual program of sound installations by emerging and
established artists.
With our expanding programming and enduring mission, we urge you to
make Diapason a priority for 2010. Please donate and visit often. To
donate via your Paypal account, follow the link below.

Donations of any amount are appreciated. If you are able to give $250
or more, we will thank you with a free copy of the Diapason Archive
5.1 DVD featuring works by Stephen Vitiello, Marina Rosenfeld, Olivia
Block and others.
Thank you for your generosity. The entire staff and board of directors
deeply appreciate the community that uses and supports the gallery.
Please let us know if you have any questions or thoughts.
Best wishes,
Michael Schumacher, director
